The rest is a surprise. who likes surprises this early in the morn? I don't! So Ill have my own surprise for you all; its called the bailing out of the freak race show and onto: the easy stroll-walk to the bridge; the quick exit- a walk up to rattlesnake; the go along with the show then exit-go to ...

Baden Powell in the white

Drove on the ACH all the way to Vinnie Gap then on to the snowy trail in order to reach the summit. Kicked it up a notch and used trail shoes with no claws either way and it kicked my bud! But it was an awsome workout in core control in order to avoid any unwanted rides! Enjoyed the great views at t...

Searching for the monument

The group hike commander has turned into a captain Ahab obsessing not over a whale but the desire reach the W. monument at the San Bernardino Mts. I am trying to stall the trek until spring arrives with its usual green growth, running waters, warm temps and a chance to go a bit further on the hike. ...

Had you done this trek before the fire you would have done ok in 8hrs. Unfortunately after the fire things have changed and if you are an overambitious first timer to this area then this is what happens to ya; speed and greed is very disorienting! You should have called it a day at the Red Box or at...

Gotta love Iron! :D The key is to go when the weather is right. Anything above 80º and you'll be hating life before you're even half way there. Time it right, and it's easily one of the best treks in the SGs. the right key is to go when the weather is above 80, strap on the 5lits, start at 8am, dri...

High winds were forecasted for the area so I thought, it would be a nice fun trek to Iron to see the snow at Baldy and the surrounding area. You didn't miss much :( Dave, snow is at a premium this year around the front country of the ANF. Fun times on the old Mt Wilson trl

With the way up high places forecasted as kind of frigidly cold and windy, I had no desire to enter that kind of terrain for now, so I tried to entertain a desire for an Iron trek due to the cool weather conditions and the soil being compacted after the rain on sat, thus giving me a chance for a fas...
