I am going tomorrow to Bear Creek via Smith so I will let you know.

I am thinking of hiking up to Smith and then going down the backside to bear creek. That trail has typically been overgrown and difficult to follow in years past. Coming up the first part is really nice and looks maintained. Just wondering if anyone has any information on the way down to bear creek....

The stickers look great. Good way to save money by putting them on one sheet. I travel alot for work and have trips upcoming to India, UK and other European destinations. We should also leave these in all geocaches along the back country routes we travel. I would like to be one of the usual suspects...

What a great day to escape to the mountains. I did a solo hike out of crystal lake to Islip Summit. I think you are right that this is the guy from the other forum looking to pay someone to go up with him. I am glad I did not volunteer. I couldnt make it to high creek by 12:30, let alone the summit.

Lessons learned: 3. All my friends have kids now and cant hike anymore (need to get new friends). Yeah. Same here, they cant go ANYwhere! Why dont you like hiking by yourself? In somewhat risky situations it is better to have a buddy with you. If I am just on a trail hike that is one thing. But I think I would just feel safer to hike/climb with others in case something goes wrong. I do like to be self sufficient very much. Hiking alo...

I also went up to smith Mountain yesterday. It was a scorcher. The bugs were swarming on our way up to the peak. Started at 10 and back to the car at 1:30. Stopped in for a quick peak at the west fork area and saw hundreds of careless people destroying the area.
