Re: 6.24.11 - waterman via waterman trail/waterman road
I was quite intrigued by the potential up there. The rock reminds me of Horse Flats (ever been up there?). North of the summit there is a large block, there was a large party of hikers having their lunch by it though so I held off investigating. It is a leisurely hike up there I can always go back.

@ Rios - That sounds intense! Nothing like a rock slide to remind you of the raw power of the wilderness and mans frailty.
@HikeUp - Thank you for the clarification. I was confused because Dawson looks so small but I guess that is just the angle...

Portion of the Silver Moccasin Trail
I desperately needed to get back into the San Gabriels, due to great rock climbing weather in Joshua Tree, two huge meetings at work and my brothers upcoming wedding it had been about 4 weeks since I last made it out into the mountains. So yesterday, my first day off in 9 days, I was itching to get ...

I see you are rocking the 5.10 Desert Enforcers, that is a rad boot! Did you pick it up at the outlet? Bailey was my 1st Canyon in the San Gabes, did you see that old aid line? Or have all the rusted bolts washed away by now...?

I believe those trails drop into Muir Canyon and Eaton Canyon, you can get to Idlehour Campground from there (at least according to the maps on my GPS...)

Re: recent hikes - icehouse yesterday, baldy ski hut today
Reports of a wildfire at Big Tujunga, with an outside investigation active so maybe arson...? Maybe SAR was flying around looking for the perp... I've been up there before when SAR was flying around, no reports of any activity so it might just be training. My guess is they tend to train during the w...

Interesting that you would say that seeing that Baldy gets summited a couple hundred times a week and Telegraph not nearly as much.
Why do you say it is safer? Less crowds maybe?

Re: Timber Mtn via Icehouse Canyon 04-27-11
This is a stark contrast to Telegraph and Thunder as seen here which look quite dooable with very little visible snow from the saddle up. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i825/albums/zz171/Illusivethoughts/Pics/IMG_3598.jpg I summited Telegraph on Saturday (the 23rd) and there is ...

Re: Mallory and Irvine - McAdie can waitie
You are one crazy guy! Glad you did not die :D The snow conditions don't look like they have changed that much since I was up there in March. I've got my eyes set on the East Arete of Irvine Peak this summer an often unclimbed Grade 3 or 4 5.10! Super psyched. What kind of tent did you use for your ...

Re: Muir, Telegraph & Cucamonga Peaks
Wow, that waterfall has been flowing for quite some time!
Cucamonga & Telegraph were the last mountains, that you can access directly from Ice House, I needed to do. Now it is time to move onto another area... Say west of Baldy![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Muir, Telegraph & Cucamonga Peaks
Monday the 18th, I got tired of being cooped up inside watching the dreary scene outside. So I tossed my gear into my 6 year old trustee day pack and drove up to the top of Lake Ave. I cruised up Echo Mountain trail in good time, the mist drifting up the mountains was beautiful and by the 5th or 6th...

Mt. Hastings (4,000') & Mt. Wilson (5,700')
About a week ago I headed up Bailey Canyon Trail to the firebreak and followed that up Manzanita Ridge ( way back in January I had hiked up Bailey Canyon intending to reach the 4,000 ft peak where Manzanita Ridge and Hastings Ridge meet ) Well I finally made it up (via a much better route) this time...

@ Burchey - sorry got kind of carried away with my history lesson :D @ Taco - So I did a bit of research, in an attempt to not mislead you, and after looking at Google Maps I only confused my foggy memory further. It has been years since I hiked up there (and heard rumors about it freezing) but if m...

Re: Mill Creek Feb 20th - Breaking Trail is a B****!
Way back in the early 90's a developer came up with an idea for a private/exclusive very expensive planned community about 2 miles up the canyon from the Vivian Creek Trailhead. They got permission from the NP service to carve a road up the canyon, utilizing a few very large front end loaders, to co...

Re: Mill Creek Feb 20th - Breaking Trail is a B****!
I love that canyon, during the spring there is a waterfall every 1/4 mile, absolutely stunning. My buddy and I hiked up there a very long time ago in April or May and right below the jump off the creek had cut a tunnel through the glacier. We hiked right through it, tall enough to walk through witho...
