Re: General Conditions

honestly summer just means go to higher altitude. as long as there's no inversion layer, from what i've read you could estimate 3-4 degrees decrease per 1000 ft altitude increase. so if its 80 at sea level, could be 50 deg on Baldy. Ze, Don't get me wrong, I aint saying you are wrong... But are the...

Re: General Conditions

I'll take 'em all except summer. The only good thing about summer are summer dresses. The rest of it can go back to hell where it came from. I love the almost instant change/smell in the air when fall hits. Then the miracles of rain and snow follow, only to be followed by the freshness of spring. Al...

Did you guys burn a whole one on the way to the falls? That might explain the mistaken llamas? hvydrt, Didn't you see that Dudley is from Orange County? Nobody in Orange County uses drugs, or even marijuana, they all still abide by Nancy Reagan's 'Just Say No' campaign. Also, God Bless Ameri...

Re: Fish Creek Loop -- Scouting

Hi Jim, Pretty sure it was a trail camp from long time back... I picked up some literature when we were there, we see if I can find it and scan it. We drove down some dirt road and found the spot but I think we came up a different dirt road. Think this was further down canyon from your trip report. ...

Re: Fish Creek Loop -- Scouting

Forgot to ask... isn't there a place down there called Fish Camp? I remember driving down there one time on the way back from Big Bear --- and it was a cozy little set up. I tried looking up Fish Camp up on the net but didn't find anything, which may not be a surprise because when we stopped by, the...

Very cool, thanks for this... haunting pictures of that old road too - I do admit to getting a little sentimental when I see these old roads getting covered - probably a lotta stories/memories on that old road :?

I always liked the Buckhorn area... because of this thread, ran into this 'historical' info.... would love to see some pics of these Guard Stations: http://tchester.org/sgm/places/buckhorn ... ation.html Even getting to the bottom of Cooper Canyon falls was somewhat of a trick for us amateurs... but...

Inspired by Hike Up's 'Deception Bowl' picture... Is there another Mt. Wilson in California? [I can't seem to locate one?] Or is this really around 'our' Mt. Wilson? Scenes on postcards were sometimes tweaked too, so wondering if they pulled an old time photoshop with this one? http://img27.imagesha...

one guy a month ago walked into the waiting room with a plain black shirt with big white letters "GUILTY". Why wasn't everyone else laughing at this? I am. That is funny. ---- I was part of a very deep trial one time. No, I wasn't the defendant :P I was on the jury. So some serious ...

About halfway up from the saddle, a helicopter flew by very close and I assume he touched down on the summit. that musta been sumpin' to see! Mo, Dave G told me he hiked with 5 gals on his back last weekend. I'll never forget the vision we had, kicking back on the summit of Mt. Baldy, when all of a sudden, coming up from the back bone trail ---- here comes this fairly hefty guy [ok, i'll say it, he was fat] ----- carrying his 4 year old ...

I get a little sad this time of year.... knowing the snow is leaving us behind... there is something almost mystical about snow. There is also something 'warm' about snow... it makes me think of a lot of fun times, especially renting cabins in Big Bear, building a fire, then going outside at night, ...
