Los Pinos Peak & Vicker Benchmark

It's tradition for me to hike on New Year's Day every year. I chose to hike with a new group and check out an area that I haven't really explored. I woke up early and drove to Orange County through the Cleveland National Forest. The plan was to bag Los Pinos Peak and check out the Vicker Benchmark. ...

Re: Black Star Canyon

Black Star Canyon is located in the Santa Ana Mountain range, about 10 miles east of Angel Stadium in the Cleveland National Forest. Nice Trip Report. I've heard that this was cool place to hike. The pictures are awesome! A little creepy regarding the school bus incident but this looks like somethi...

Friday Sept 23, 2016 We woke with the sun on Friday morning... Very Nice Report. I love the milky way picture! Sean and I attempted Mt. Tyndall about 3 years ago. We made it up to Shepards Pass but there was a lightening storm so we turned around and could not summit. At least I know what the summi...

Re: New Year hike - Sunset Peak

I know we need the rain and/or snow but the weather here has been outstanding the last couple of weeks. Awesome report! I do remember reading your TR last time you hiked this peak in the snow. However there is a survey marker there behind the big square metal thing (whatever it's called). Kind of h...

Re: Big Santa Anita Canyon East Fork

If this is the first time you've tried following a route described by Brennen's online pages, here are some things to watch out for: (a) These pages are all about 20 years old, and I don't think he actively updates them. I have often found that conditions have changed significantly by the time I ge...

Re: Lookout Mountain via West Fork of Bear Canyon (My Bday Hike)

I second David's suggestion; it's a nice route. The way-finding is pretty simple. Start out on the normal Bear Canyon trail. When the trail leaves the river (or maybe a bit before) you leave the trail, and take a gully to the left. There's a use trail eventually, and you end up at the saddle betwee...

Re: Day 3 THE HOODOOS AND THE FAIRYLAND LOOP TRAIL, BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK

I appreciate your posts on Bryce. Our family went this summer and a lot of the scenery looks familiar, but you have done a lot more than we did. I'd like to go back in a few years, though there are three other Utah parks I haven't seen. One of the things I wanted to do but didn't was hike to the Si...

Re: Jones & Hastings Peaks - a new route for me

Nice report and pix! I did the opposite…all my Jones and Hastings hikes were from Bailey Canyon via the route you describe here, while I did it just once via Bastard Ridge (on my 67th birthday in 2013, after learning about it from a report on this forum)… I never scaled that summit rock on Hastings...

Re: Lookout Mountain via West Fork of Bear Canyon (My Bday Hike)

Hi David,
Thanks for the information. I would love to go back there some day. Maybe you would like to show us the way? My friend Henry wants to go too, after I told him about my adventure. I have to admit it was fun but could be dangerous and if there is an easier but cooler way I'm down!

Jones & Hastings Peaks - a new route for me

For many years I have hiked the fun way to Jones Peak via the steep Bastard Ridge. I love this route because it's a great workout. However, recently, I was introduced to an easier, still steep, but longer way to Jones & Hastings Peaks. I did this hike on Thanksgiving day and had so much fun that...

Lookout Mountain via West Fork of Bear Canyon (My Bday Hike)

Lately, I haven't had time to post my hikes as often as I would like but I wanted to share my birthday adventure that took place on November 22nd. Some of my wild Wednesday hiking friends planned a fun adventure bagging Lookout Mountain via Bear Canyon, scrambling up a steep ridge. I have bagged thi...

DAY 4 QUEENS GARDEN, PEEK- A- BOO TRAIL, WALL OF WINDOWS, & WALL STREET TRAILS, BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK

This morning we gathered again at the Sunrise Point parking lot near the general store. Day 3 THE HOODOOS AND THE FAIRYLAND LOOP TRAIL, BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK

On this day, I met the group at the North Campground General Store. I must say that the campground is very nice. Showers and clean restrooms are available for use. The plan was to do the Fairyland Loop Trail. An 8 mile hike with about 1725” elevation gain. Cloudy skies and chance of rain was in the ...

I spent 4 lovely days hiking in Utah in October. I arrived late so I ended up hiking by myself that morning. I took the Wes...
