Re: Random OC Peaklet near ortega hwy.
Harding falls was fun! I actually went a few ears back when we actually had water then went back last year and it was pretty dry. Chiquito falls can wait for a wet year :( Margarita peak Intrests me, that drive is pretty bad. I've been doing this little sub peak off the bell ridge trail from Robinso...

Re: Random OC Peaklet near ortega hwy.
i figured there is a lot of exploring to do without driving all the way out to the San Gabriel range. 2040 was fun and quick i might start doing it more as a run loop with the san juan trail and the fire station ridge. i saw all the use trails on google earth and figured it would "go". los...

Random OC Peaklet near ortega hwy.
Random OC Peaklet Off the Ortega hwy by the san juan fire station is a small nameless peak I figured would be a good climb. I Started from the San Juan trailhead and up the switchbacks to the first saddle. Then I took up a brushy use trail to the summit. I had been looking on Google earth a few ways...

My New Favorite Loop in the Santa Ana's
Los Pinos Peak – Bell Ridge – Yaeger Mesa – Trabuco Canyon Trail loop I hiked/ran the same loop in consecutive weeks. I thought it was some of the best scenery in all of the Santa Ana Mountains. Started on the main divide road near bluejay campground and followed the normal route to los pinos peak ~...

Re: Roofing Nails on HWY 39 - Road Sabotage or just unlucky?
I came across a flipped over car on the 39 tonight. I was on my way back from hiking islip and saw flashing lights and a flipped over sedan. The driver looked shaken up but ok, anf fire trucks had just arrived looked like it had just happened around 9. Then I passed a dui checkpoint shortly after ri...

Re: warning: probable active grow site
yes forest grown crap is going to be cheaper and sold on the streets for cheap. But the amount of medical pot the dispensaries go through would be nearly impossible to do and isn't really worth the hassle, especially when you can do an efficient hydroponic setup in a back room of a house. grown in t...

Re: San Antonio Ridge - Gold Dollar Mine
From gunsight it only really took me about 10-15 down to where I started seeing stuff. Total I'd say I spent about 30-40 minutes total off the ridge. And hour and I probably would have found the mine and had time for snacks and selfies at the cabin foundation. I had two medium coffees by the time I ...

Walker- the clouds rolling in were great! Definitely helped to climb baldy again with nice views. Ze- first off thanks! Your trip reports were essential in helping me find it. San Antonio Ridge - Gold Dollar Mine
On Tuesday morning I started up the Ski hut trail around 10:30 pretty late, but I figured I would still be able to get a decent hike in before sunset. I was trying to make up time the entire time up jogging where the trail let me. Made the summit in less than 2hrs and stopped for all of 30 seconds t...

Blackstar Canyon
I went for a run in Blackstar Canyon in the Santa Ana’s yesterday after work. I started out at about 5pm down the fire road, the temps were still high probably mid-high 80’s. Lower reaches of the canyon are pretty Ran past the turn off for the popular waterfall (probably dry anyways) and up the wind...

Re: Villager & Rabbit
Yea the view of rabbit from villager was discouraging but nothing compared to how far the trailhead seems from rabbit peak.
My one bit of advice is once you leave villager for rabbit DO NOT LOOK BACK! 11.5 miles isn't a whole lot but it's all in a straight line and it makes it seem farther.

Re: Villager & Rabbit
The sun getting covered up was fantastic! Especially after 6-7hours of hiking with the sun beating down on me. There were a few decent shade trees I was using and a great rock shelter right after you drop down off villager on the way to rabbit. This shelter would make a great campsite. The trail sta...

Days off this week had a rainy forecast for most of the LA/OC area, so I decided to drive to sunny skies out in Anza Borrego. I decided to try to hike to Villager peak and Rabbit If I felt up to the challenge. Drove out Tuesday night and slept in my car at the Yaqui pass campground. I woke up at 6:3...

I will take a run out that way early next week to see if I can find it. Assuming it's in the brush on the south side of the peak it's probably still sitting there.

4/8/15 I started at the East fork parking area at around 8am for my weekly run/hike. Yea I used that yellow rope and got to the bypass up on the canyon wall checking things out.
Back in 2011 there was enough water in the upper canyon falls pool to jump from the rocks above. All the waterfalls in that area are sad now
tenaja, lion, Ortega, chiquito all running dry.

Re: Tanriverdi Falls
I've gone down to where the rope work starts, really cool geology. Usually there are 1000's of frogs on the single track falls. There is a bypass trail from the top of sled falls down into the mid canyon stretch and I have heard on one guy who made it through the canyon without ropes. Always been in...

I believe the trail he is talking about is the direct route up the ridge from the trabuco trail then follow the "regular" trail that switchbacks a few times in the offshoot canyon from trabuco canyon where the plane crash is.
