great pics Tim, that looks like a great route. It sure is nice to be up high on such a clear day. I think you were probably seeing lake Mathews rather than Elsinore.

my buddy and i walked up the regular trail with boots and a trekking pole each last Sunday with no problems. It was his first time on baldy. saw people heading up, just below the summit, in nikes and shorts.

Re: Baldy Group Hike 4-5-08

My buddy and I got to the top about 9:30 this morning. I believe we were the first people there, and I didn't see a GPS anywhere. Though I didn't look around for one either. I wish I would have seen this before I left this morning, I could have looked for it. I did see Taco on my way down, hopefully...

Re: Barber Mountain, Mitchell Caverns, and Amboy Crater

Yeah the tent I brought was a family car camping type tent, not built for wind, or any bad weather for that matter. I slept alot better than I thought I would in the car. (96 civic) Amboy was awesome I am glad to see your pictures, our battery died when we were at hole in the wall. The lizards were ...

Barber Mountain, Mitchell Caverns, and Amboy Crater

My wife wanted to see some wildflowers so we went out to Mojave this past weekend to do a little sightseeing. This was my first trip to the desert (beside driving through it). We camped at Hole in The Wall. The winds were so strong when we arrived Friday night that we couldn't set up our tent, so we...

My GPS does the same thing. Ever since they moved up day light savings time, my GPS is off by and hour for a few weeks. There doesn't seem to be anyway to change the time on it.

bummer about your camera. I couldn't believe how fast those clouds blew in. I made it back to my truck at 11:30 and didn't see any snow or rain anywhere on my way home. I have also met Shin. I had a good conversation with him on the way down from the summit last winter.

baldy 3-15

Started out from manker flats at 6am, got to the hut about 7:15, had a snack and I was off. I went up the middle of the bowl. It was more like walking up stairs than walking up a slope from all the foot prints. I got to the summit at about 9. Summit was very cold. The air temp was 20 degrees, but th...

Walk up to ski hut

I walked up to the ski hut this morning. I intended to goto the summit but I was in a rather lazy mood. I expected a least a little new snow, but there wasn't really anything new below the ski hut. There may have been a few inches up higher, but I think that storm yesterday was to warm and it rained...

I have to agree that the 57 to the 210 is way better than taking Euclid. I live and san clemente and it takes 1:30 to get to manker. (in the early am) Though on the way home i usualy take the 10, so i can stop off at Chipoltle on Mountain and reward my self with a gut full of barbacoa. ummm

backpacked up the south fork again to dry lake, then onto San G. Took the ridge that makes the eastern edge of the jepson bowl up, then walked to summit. There was about 3 more feet of snow at dry lake compared to when I was there a month ago. weather and snow conditions were perfect.

Re: Hikers body recovered from Mt Wilson

I have participated in a hike lead by Terry and found him to be a good leader. ODC is very clear that everyone should know their own limits. I feel bad for Terry, the lady that fell, and also the person that decided to go ahead. I don't think you can blame anyone involved, it was an accident. As Aug...
