How common [or uncommon] is it to see this in the San Gabriel Mountains ?? https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/gallery.myff.org/gallery/1618162/P1040093.JPG Will pass this al...

I hope it rains cats and dogs. Literally. Dogs, no problem. Cats, ehhhhhh. Just as long as it doesn't pour rattlesnakes  Sorry for the doom and gloom report - but hey, for now, let's just see if we can see more snow this year, foot by foot... http://sanmarino.patch.com/groups/edito ... s_d...

Sometimes what works in scree is to keep yer feet in the mix. Don't lift them above ground, just kinda 'knead' the ground and you'll moonwalk all the way down. Matt, I think Taco forgot to mention that much like the real Moonwalk - he goes down scree slopes backward :P What fun/challenge would it b...

Cool Zarka! Thanks for posting these pics... yes, some may say it's just a scattering of wood siding --- but to some of us softies, it's a reminder of 'what once was' when it comes to cabins/structures/'homelife' in the San Gabriel Mountains. Sure hope DV1 pops in and sees this post - and hopefully ...

I froze some pre-cooked tri-tip and heated it up with my MSR. Short trips make it easy to indulge. :D .......and drink some whiskey Sarah, my friend wants me to ask you, 'do you have a sister or a cousin' ? :P :D And if I may add, in addition to tri-tip and whiskey, you're able to scare off peeping...

Why are these spots so popular/crowded these days?
Ice House Canyon and Chantry Flats. Granted it's been a good long while since I've last hit these trails [go ahead, throw me into a yucca or huck pine cones at me :P :P ]...... and maybe I should emphasize the parking lots when speaking of crowded... But according to TRs here - it sounds like if you...

Or kids. It's just that I grew up where all of this country's poisonous snakes live - Copperheads, Cottonmouths (Water Moccasins), Corals, Rattlesnakes. Walking through the Big Thicket once I paused to take a look around. Hmm...there's a copperhead about 10 feet away....hmmm....there's another one....

I was pissed that the forest service didn't have warnings about it along the Gabrielino, because it was everywhere and the trail was non-existent in many places. As much as an 'itch-on-the-ass' the Poodle bush seems to be, would a little warning sign be too much trouble?? Going by the response here...
