Re: It is Official: Mt Baldy Road Closed
lol yeah once I was told Heaton Flat was flooded. of course that was after an insignificant amount of rain compared to this weather.
trust me if it was the rangers saying this (and not ski lifts) I still wouldn't trust them!

Re: The Benefits of Exercising Before Breakfast
sure, but things can get misinterpreted pretty quickly. this study does not show eating anything is worse than nothing before exercise, only that eating a large meal 90 min before is worse than no food at all. most people wouldn't do that anyways. is eating nothing better than having a bowl of cerea...

Re: The Benefits of Exercising Before Breakfast
it is interesting. I have been experimenting with different food timing scenarios and fasting. I'm not sure exactly how much to take from this study - their comparison of fasted vs non-fasted meant feeding people 700 kcal 90 minutes before exercise. That's too much. People won't (or shouldn't) eat t...

Re: Hiking Baldy (and surrounding peaks) in Winter
Thanks, Taco. I chose Bear Flat yesterday because I assumed it would be less inclined to present me with danger since it's more south/west facing. At least this early in the season. But I was astounded at the snow level, and how the route down had iced over as I was descending. I also worried about...

Re: Speaking of mt. bikes & hiking trails
I ride with a bear bell on my handlebars so hikers hear me coming on narrow trails. that's good they can hear you, but are you going to be able to see them and stop in enough time? just like cars on a road, bikers gotta be ready to stop. nothing personal, but if a mountain biker comes flying around...

I'm gonna say Wolfram's development was at a whole other level! At Caltech, we often seen young students (e.g.Stephen Wolfram http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Wolfram got his PhD here at age 20). Is this similar to a young climber? What role do parents play? What happens next?
