Hey Ellen!
You had quite a thrill outside the FRC proper. Apparently, the left and right ridges above the canyon are similar terrain with loose dirt and bad rock. Glad you ladies made it out safely, but I see it took a blood sacrifice from both of us.

Great report, mcphersonm80.
The Sierra crest pano from the west is awesome. Your photos belong in National Geographic. Vivid!
Bummer that the snow changed your plans, but few get to witness such a seasonal change in one day. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Sugarloaf ridge attempt
There were a couple places early where we could have gotten back into the canyon. For example, just past the 1st dry waterfall. After that, it is cliffed out in most places and we weren't really looking for ways in, just up. It was just a poor group decision to stay on the ridge. On the way down, we...

That's what I thought, too. He didn't go to the doctor, just put Neosporin on it. It was wide, which made it bleed a lot. It's healing up fine, but will leave a nice scar.

Sugarloaf ridge attempt
On Friday, I climbed Sugarloaf via Falling Rock Canyon and have no beta to add that hasn't been covered in depth. However, two weeks earlier, a couple of my friends came with me and we mistakenly started up the ridge just right of the canyon. We figured it out after a couple of hundred feet, but com...

Neat hike and photos. Thanks for sharing the trip. No question from all the black rocks that you were climbing a volcano. I can't believe there are 8 rest stations along the way and one nearly at the summit. Did you ever feel like you were in the wilderness? I guess you only need to pack in enough t...

One heck of a trip all over the place. Nice. I've always wondered about going straight up or down the bowl when it's not winter. Sounds like you had no issues coming down.

Very nice photos.
You canyoneer types!!?! It's never enough to just climb a mountain, you have to rappel down the vertical parts. Even that is not enough, you have to go down waterfalls and land in pools of water.
I think it's great, just not for me.![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Rico,
We are lucky to have three major ranges within 90 minutes of LA. All with a slightly different flavor. Too many mountains and not enough time.

Awesome! That stuff looks crumbly to me, but I'm a novice rock climber. It's definitely at the upper end of the epic scale.

Hey Taco,
I think the gully on the south side, the other side of the "head" is steeper, but I didn't go over the summit to get a good look at it.

Dragons Head and Jepson Peak from Vivian Creek
On Wednesday, I went up Vivian Creek to hit Jepson Peak and Dragons Head. I timed leaving my house so I would arrive shortly after the gate at Vivian opened at 6:00 AM. With rain earlier in the week, the trail was damp, but firm. It was a cool 57F at the trailhead and warmed up to 70F. The weather w...

I emailed you my name for the list. Thanks for taking action on this. I've been following the threads on the San Gorgonio forum.
I haven't needed to access it before 6:00 am yet, but I might want to some day and I don't understand the desire to lock it up, especially for people coming back late.

Nice one, Rico! I love seeing other mountain ranges and the different terrain. Some of those valleys look like golf courses. Didn't you see the one way (up) sign on Register Ridge? That is some unfriendly downhill. The sheep are all over the place this year. Good omen.

There were two bighorns on this cliff, but I was only able to snap the curious one. The sun was in an unfavorable location, but you can still make him out. And what San Gabriel trip would be complete without a rattlesnake this year? https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i1183/albums/x47...

Re: "Death March" Scouting Trip - June 8
This hike sounds awesome. And Friday the 13th is perfect. I don't think caching water, say at the top of North Backbone or below West Baldy, is cheating or diminishes the hike. Just good planning from my point of view on a mostly waterless path, but people have differing opinions on that sort of thi...

Re: TR: Mt Whitney (second time is the charm)
Congrats on your summit. I take it from your title that the first trip didn't go as well. I saw at least a dozen discarded wag bags from Trail Camp up, many thrown into ravines or over the edge of the trail. I can't imagine what the problem was like before the wag bags were added. One in my group ha...
