Re: How's the water situation at Cooper Canyon Trail Camp?

I seem to be the primary user of Cooper Canyon CG lately! As of today, water at the campground is not super generous, but sufficient to support filtering for an overnight.

Re: Cogswell Dam to point 4177 and (somewhat) beyond - trip report and photos

Is this the not-exactly-Fort-Knox gate you're referring to? This was taken last September, right at the first residence. On previous trips we had found it open and rode on in.

Thanks! That detail on the Pacific populations does help. It also could have been migration time (took me a while to get the photos off the camera ?)

Another bird ID!

Saw this pretty bird on the PCT between Mill Creek Summit and Pacifico Campground, 5 May 2018. Looks a lot like a Wilson's Warbler, but the habitat doesn't quite match ("dense, brushy vegetation near water"). Any alternate ideas? Thanks!

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)

Interesting, if I understand the location correctly, the fallen tree on the way to Wright Mtn was not there on the 23rd. Also: we got to Lupine last weekend! (which is 3N39, but seems to be discussed here since the gate at Guffy is 3N06). I have to agree with the ANF, which says "Road is in poo...

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)

We biked from Inspiration Point to Wright Mtn (well, biked up until the turnoff to the peak) yesterday 23 June. Surprised to see the gate at Guffy open. We ran into 2 hikers who said they were coming back from Lupine. We asked if it had been cleared for vehicles, and they warned about the rockfall b...

Almost forgot! There was an ammo box at the foot of the water tank on the uphill side. Inside was a bottle of Jack Daniels. I didn't partake.

San Olene late December

Another delayed report... (getting there...) Rode the bikes to San Olene Dec 29. Nice day. DSC00986.jpg I think they repainted "Santa Anita Ridge" on the water tank in the Mt. Wilson fire ops. (I'll put a closeup in the triangle marker thread). DSC00983.jpg The firebreak got redone all the...

Re: Orchard Camp, Old Mt Wilson trail

Thanks for the photo. I moved to Sierra Madre just a couple months later, Dec 1991. It would be another 18 years before I imagined I could maybe make it to Orchard Camp. Glad the oak stuck around for me to meet it.

Little Jimmy & Mt Islip

This is another really delayed report. We did Little Jimmy and Mt Islip from Islip Saddle on Dec 16. It was COLD and WINDY coming down from the peak. Little Jimmy spring was running fine, but the trough had been set aside. DSC00956.jpg Don't know whether that's some form of winterization or what. Se...

Trigger warning: ANF loo interior photo ? Late posting this, but as of 12/27/2017, 3 of the Hoegee's loos were bolted shut with the same notice from "the EPA." DSC00974.jpg As for the 4th, it was open. I couldn't be sure whether it was opened willfully by "the EPA," or perhaps b...

Orchard Camp, Old Mt Wilson trail

I've been quite absent (gotta tell you that the new forum version may have played a role), but a cursory search doesn't turn up a recent report on recent changes at Orchard Camp. Seeing as the Mt Wilson trailhead is about 0.75 mile from our house, we hit it fairly regularly. We were last there withi...

We could have differing ideas of "boring..." :D

We enjoy riding Blue Ridge Rd from Inspriation Pt to Guffy and back. Would you call the Pacifico ride significantly more boring than that?

I understand it's supposed to be open the whole way, possibly one lane with a flagman or temporary light near the affected area. Haven't seen it myself yet.

p.s. Nice to "meet" you! :q38: (That's a root beer float for the scouts)

If you saw our tent in Lupine, it's from the early/mid-90's, $30 from Target. We haven't found anything that beats it for size/price/weight.
