"Johnson Corner" in the San Gabriel Mountains
Been seeing this label called "Johnson Corner" in the San Gabriels for quite some time now. I never really cared to research it, but search results are futile. Does any one know the origin of this place name ? It's located by Ross Mtn 34.30697574200183, -117.75170023458487 Screen Shot 2021...

Not sure if this is any better. The microfilms weren’t all that much better than the already digitized form.

Re: Mount Pacifico Lookout?
According to the datasheet in 1978 there was still a station mark and two reference marks atop the boulders south of the campground. They might be gone now. Screenshot_20190719-075737~2.png Yup!! I read: PAC 2 NCER IS A STANDARD U.S.GEOLOGICAL SURVEY DISK STAMPED---PAC 2 NCER---CEMENTED IN A 5 FOOT...

Mount Pacifico Lookout?
I found a LA Times article that published a story mentioning a Mount Pacifico fire lookout on December 4, 1932: “A marvelous view of hills and mountains and desert can be had from this point. A short walk from the car brought us to the foot of the look-out tower and the more hardy of our party climb...

Re: BP&L Road
I'm feeling out of the loop. These are existing roads? What's an example of one? One here: 34°29'19.6", -118°03'45.1" Another off of Little Tujunga Rd going towards Highline Saddle I think. Both of these are powerline roads today. We're sure that "PL" isn't "power and light...

Re: John W. Robinson
Hello, I was informed earlier that morning via my site. I exchanged emails with an Eric Plunkett, who verified Robinson’s death. He is an acquaintance and his friend Phil Brigandi (another local historian) is a close friend of Robinson’s. I then subsequently told Modern Hiker. I’m not sure where thi...

Re: Baldora (or is it Widco?)
Cool find! I think the Smith Cabin refer to Charlie Smith the miner of the Gold Dollar and Eagle mines and former manager of Rincon Camp Resort? He was asleep in his cabin when a giant avalanche took him and his cabin down to his death. I'd be interested in that Bighorn Ridge trail. Crazy how it was...

Re: Buell's Tunnel Found!
Our resident sleuth runs up another impressive find. I wonder what all the fuss was about...I mean did Buell's claim actually produce enough gold to make it sensible to build a water tunnel? Or was this all about not getting that east fork water? All for naught. I think thats the comedy of the trag...

Re: Buell's Tunnel Found!
In case any one wants to see the length of the tunne in a video Sweet! Any signs of recent visitation? How old is that shovel? Yeah somebody definitely has visited in recent years. There was a torn bag of onions scattered across the end. Hard to tell. The canyon was definitely zero trace of any hik...

Re: Buell's Tunnel Found!
In case any one wants to see the length of the tunne in a video Holy shizz that's sketchy. I get claustrophobic just watching that. Could you tell that the tunnel ran uphill from the north fork to the east fork just from waking through it? Excellent question!! Next time I go I'll pay better attenti...

LOL I know right!! I'm not sure. He was only ever written about as Simpson. Supposedly he escaped the canyon when his miscalculations were discovered.Uncle Rico wrote: ↑Good find missy.
What ever happened to Simpson? That's the guy that should have fled to Mexico. Lol.

Buell's Tunnel Found!
I had written about this story previously in my blog and have found it to be the coolest little story in our local mountains... So like 150 years ago this miner named Buell had a claim in the East Fork. But since he didn't have rights to use the East Fork water, he decided to convey water somehow fr...

Re: Trails of the Angeles (Throughout the Editions)
Some hikes I'd scrap because the trails are closed or too damaged: #8 Alder Creek to Barley Flats #10 Big Tujunga to Tom Lucas to Indian Ben Saddle... #49 Azusa to Mt. Bliss... #50 Azusa to Fish Canyon... #64 and #66 because a trail is closed to protect frogs In general I think the book has too man...

Re: Trails of the Angeles (Throughout the Editions)
Excellent writeup! I dont know that I would change anything....except to get rid of Fish Canyon in Azusa. Id replace that with Cucamonga canyon/San Sevaine. Id add the Gabrielino trail via JPL...perhaps in place of via Dark canyon. #9 & #10 Trail canyon are too redundant...Id eliminate #9 and a...

Trails of the Angeles (Throughout the Editions)
I did a comparison of all the editions of Trails of the Angeles since the first edition. Check it out, lots of interesting history! http://angelesadventures.com/trails/ It was neat to see that those three mines under San Antonio Ridge used to be in the book! (Gold Dollar, Eagle, Baldora/Widco) And s...
