Re: Bear Flat Trail (Baldy Village)
We went up Bear Flat as part of a 6 peak loop two weeks ago on a Saturday. I was surprised by how many people we saw on that trail on a hot day. But it was maybe 20 total. And the numbers go way down as one gets higher -- I suspect that a fair number of people bail out part way up. I like that trail...

The Summerson book lists Horseshoe as the 2nd toughest in CA. Onion Valley is 1st and Whitney Portal comes in at #5. About 20 miles of the 66-mile mountain pass ... Wow, there's a 66 mile long pass up there? Boy am I ever glad they printed this article to clear up any confusion. On the other hand, if I could show you an newspaper article in which the only mistake was a single word, you'd give it a pass, right? :D

Good stuff, Alan. I can only imagine how hot the 3 T's trail was! Do you know what was going on with the Sherriff vehicles near Thunder Mtn? 6 peaks were certainly enough on this day. Although, truth be told, I have not hiked more than 21 miles in a while anyway. I hope to fix that. Our guess was t...

Baldy 6 Peaks 7-17-10
Eric, Jay Olsen, and I did a Baldy 6 peaks hike on a hot day that was even hotter down in the valleys we temporarily left behind. Temperatures ranged from 69 to 93, which made for plenty of perspiration. We started at Ice House Canyon and walked down the road to Baldy Village. We then took the Bear ...

John Wedberg (Kurt's dad) has over 700 Baldy summits. Here I got him to pose next to his picture on the Ski Hut wall back in 2006. Kurt may know his record for summits in a year. He may also have stats on other folks with numerous ascents. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/alank.smugmug.com/Hik...

I am not sure where the actual summit of Mt. Wilson is, nor do I care. I think that anyone who goes no higher than the gazebo should be safe from peak-bagging charges, at least for that day.

I went up yesterday figuring I'd give the place a try. I got there a little after 11. It had occurred to me that they might not be open 7 days per week, so I had a Plan B, which was to hoof it down and head over to Sierra Madre. I was good and hungry when I got my lunch.

Nice bear proof trash can they have there. Hmmm.
