Re: Middle Fork Lytle Creek -- Mini Trip
darnit. HJ beat me to it again. I was going to head in there soon and report water conditions but you gotta get up pretty early in the morning/year to beat HJ. Hey Jim, how far up did you hike? I was going to go down from the other side and I wasnt sure how far down i would have to go to get water f...

Re: Water at Ski Hut (Baldy Bowl)?
water is plentiful. I collected water a couple hundred feet above the hut last weekend and it was flowing well. the first spring, (not the middle one where the outhouse sits, yuck), but the little one just before that, is a trickle but usable as well.

Re: WM SummerLite v. FF Osprey UL 30
Tio Rico, Gotta wonder if youre comparing apples to apricots or something here because 4.6oz of down is a big difference, over 50% more down than the Summerlite. Does that sound right? (I never received better than a D in mathematics) Anywho, cant speak to the models, but I do have a FF bag and have...

Mike P, I cant recall where Sycamore Flat is. I was very close to the service road that runs from San Dimas Canyon to Johnstone Peak.

Eaton from Henninger
Craig and I finally syncd up and hit Eaton, our first SGM canyoneering excursion. We did a couple beginner slots in Zion recently, Orderville and Keyhole, and this was a good bit juicier than either of those as far as rapelling skills goes. Zion has good sticky rock, Eaton not so much. On a few of m...

Re: Gun shots heard from Iron Mtn on 4/26...
Ive never heard gunfire up that way, maybe Taco was up there. But I did go running once in the hills above San Dimas near Johnstone Peak and I was fired on. The shooter was somewhere above me and across a drainage, and the fire seemed to be directed at me, not just out in my general direction. I hit...

Re: Mountain lion killed after stalking family on O.C. trail
"This is actually pretty typical behavior in the late afternoon, early morning," Hughan said. "It's hunting for prey, and unfortunately a family happened to be walking by at the wrong place and at the wrong time." This is typical behavior? Since when? Are lions doing this all the...

Yes Uncle Rico, I believe that would be correct. We swing wildly from carrying a spartan kit and only instant coffee and whiskey in a plastic bottle for comfort... to just all out hicks carrying coors, menudo, three kinds of whiskey in glass bottles, etc. I never know if I'll be the only one showing...

Los Padres
Got out with a couple friends to enjoy the weather. Idylhour plans were cancelled last minute due to mudslide potential, so we headed for Los Padres instead. Conditions were quite awful, 6 inches of slush, alternating rain and snow, not a stick of dry wood anywhere. Still, I was in good company, and...

gorgeous photos. healthy looking pups. i get every few days, often for 10 miles at a time, and have noticed seeing significantly less critters in the last few years. Re: Question about Mtn Bikers on SG trails
Most bikers are awesome, wouldnt mind riding myself more often, but theres a few out there.. I was on a quiet peaceful run with my dog, little feller, hardly a speedbump. i heard the bell, turned to pick him up, and he was already rolling under the knobbies in a cloud of dust and squeeling brakes. t...

Re: Fire above Glendora
the fire is up GMR road, on Colby trail, about 3 miles from my house. Friends of mine live there and their property is on the front line. :( Because it borders residential property and because it's burning below the Azusa-Glendora fireroad, I would expect the fire to be contained quickly. At least, ...

Re: When would you NOT use micro-spikes?
Everybody's tolerance is different. Our abilities vary, our awareness of the risks vary, and also our willingness to accept risk varies. For me, I almost always carry microspikes with me in snow for the simple reason that they enhance my running performance significantly. Figuring out when and where...
