Re: Speaking of mt. bikes & hiking trails
The Holy Jim Trail to the top of Santiago Peak is actually maintained by the Warriors, a mountain biking club. If it wasn't for them, there may not be a maintained trail at all. I used to have a prejudice against mountain bikers, assuming they tore up the trails (of course, they are prohibited from ...

Re: Old Mt. Wilson Trail
I have hiked up Mt. Wilson four times since the Station Fire. The Old Mt. Wilson Trail is fine, as are Sturtevant and Upper Winter Creek. Also, Mt. Zion, etc. The trail to Newcomb Pass is closed. Want to take the kids to Sturtevant Falls this Saturday. No problem with that? No problem at all. Well,...

Re: Running down bicyclists is no big deal - if you are rich
That these people, looters and criminals on a massive scale, have convinced so many Americans that plundering the entire US economy is not nearly as grave a sin as some hapless Joe walking out on his mortgage, is an even more obvious symptom of this once-promising nation's slide into naked oligarch...

Re: Running down bicyclists is no big deal - if you are rich
In the case of TARP which I think you are referring to, a case could be made that the money prevented large instituions that we the little guys depend on for our livelyhoods. (401k, stocks, life savings etc.) Was there? Fine. Then the government could have protected all of us by nationalizing the b...

Re: Running down bicyclists is no big deal - if you are rich
Seems to me a felony conviction would affect most if not all of our careers. Well, sure, but not all of use are hedge fund managers with Wall Street connections. Remember, we spent about a trillion dollars as a nation ensuring none of these people were held accountable for the global financial melt...

Re: BALDY - Archive of Mt. Baldy-related Discussions
I would like to do some more self arrest practice this year as well as some glacier travel and rescue practice. I have been keeping my eyes open for some good practice slopes during the last couple of years, but haven't seen anything good and safe. I want something where you can get a bit of speed, ...

Buying shared hosting services gives you everything you'd get from owning and managing the hardware yourself, plus security and backups, without the headaches associated with maintaining a box and a high speed network link. I don't recommend putting a community resource like this forum on a personal...

Mt San Jacinto overnight: the last Noob hike of the season
For the last OCHC Noob Backpacking overnight of the 2010 season, we spent the weekend on Mt San Jacinto. Despite a weather forecast predicting snow and high winds, we enjoyed perfect weather throughout the trip. It was an excellent close to the summer backpacking season. https://eispiraten.com/image...

I think it will be a long time before we need a virtual private server.
What I like about Liquid Web is they offer tiered shared plans with a migration path to a VPS, should that be required.

But this is a discussion topic for the Migration Committee.

Okay, I should read the links you posted, but I'm at work. Does it have to be phpBB? Any chance this could be run on FluxBB or PunBB? Otherwise, you make it sound doable. Small fee is no big deal, a few contributions would take care of that. Unless y'all think Eispiraten.com absolutely sucks, there'...

Taco and Vitaly hit the nail on the head. This forum is virtually invisible as far as the search engines are concerned, and so there is very little infusion of new blood. Traffic is WAY down on this board in the last six months or so.
I just noticed many of the most active posters from days gone by are now more active over on the San Jacinto board.
What gives?

In the past, I used to love this place, particularly because it used to be peaceful and quiet and serene. But this past weekend the noise level was unbearable -- a caravan of about 10 (!!!) cars coming in at 9:30 pm on Thursday, disgorging about 40 people, who proceeded to build a veritable tent-ci...
