New trail from Dawn Mine to Tom Sloan Saddle

The Restoration Legacy Crew has been volunteering their time and working hard almost every weekend on the new trail from Dawn Mine to Tom Sloan Trail. No more bushwhacking, no more deadfall to climb over and no more annoying yuccas to be poked by as you are walking along the trails. The crew has cl...

Re: GOLDEN CANYON, ZABRISKIE POINT & RED CATHEDRAL RIDGE

Thanks Richard, yes there was tons of "no trail" signs. My problem is that sometimes I don't like to follow the rules because some of these areas are so tempting. Anyways, it was a very beautiful area.

I don't care what we do. As long as it involves some rock scrambling, bush wacking and kicking my butt!

Re: GOLDEN CANYON, ZABRISKIE POINT & RED CATHEDRAL RIDGE

After reaching a dead end, I spotted a cairn and we descended a rocky gully. 20180203_131934.jpg 20180203_132441.jpg Around the corner we found a small chute where we could climb down. We were relieved that we were back on the trail and safe. 20180203_132636.jpg Looking up at the chute that we desc...

Re: GOLDEN CANYON, ZABRISKIE POINT & RED CATHEDRAL RIDGE

After descending Zabriskie Point, we found the use path and ascended towards Red Cathedral. As we continued to climb up and over many bumps along the trail, we were surprised by curvy parts of the trail that we couldn't see ahead of us at certain points. 20180203_110046.jpg As we walked along the r...

GOLDEN CANYON, ZABRISKIE POINT & RED CATHEDRAL RIDGE

This past weekend I went to Death Valley to meet with a group. However, things didn't work out quite as planned, due to mis-communication with posted meeting times. The group was camped at different sites within the Furnace Creek Campground and some of us stayed in hotels. (Obviously I need to re-t...

CHIQUITO FALLS

THIS IS A REPOST BECAUSE MY PICS WERE DELETED IN ERROR. On Sunday, I hiked in the Cleveland National Forest to check out the falls. I met a small group at the San Juan Loop Trailhead . 20180128_142231.jpg 20180128_101036.jpg We descended down a rocky path for about a mile or so before approaching t...

Part two: RIBBON ROUTE continued Some of the rock scrambling along the west ridge. 20180124_134556.jpg As we continued to hike along the spine, from a distance we could see a flag on top of an unknown high point. We decided to check it out and found a use path transversing up a very grassy ridge to...

LADYFACE - THE RIBBON ROUTE

LADY FACE.PNG It was another Wild Wednesday hiking with some of my favorite peeps. This time we hiked the RIBBON ROUTE, which included hiking all the ridges surrounding her face. We met in Westlake Village, left cars in a residential area and carpooled to PARAMOUNT RANCH. The plan was to exit from ...

Re: Pikes Peak Drive & Hike - Colorado

Tekewin, surprisingly no elevation issues for me. Maybe the smooth road had alot to do with it. When I attempted White Mountain and drove up to 11,000 ft. from Bristlecone, I was so sick and it was a shorter drive. Driving on the Peaks Highway was awesome and I loved every moment of it! It was reall...

Red Rocks & Lookout Mtn Colorado Christmas Vacation Day 3

Sean and I woke up early and had an awesome breakfast. We had planned to do alot of sight seeing. We drove to Red Rocks Park. 26233285_10211223045835246_84011293306776694_o.jpg We hiked around the Trading Post Trail to admire the beautiful Red Rocks. 26168470_10211223037995050_3888032124570826565_n...

Smith Mountain 5111'

Re: Los Pinos Peak & Vicker Benchmark

Hope you are OK from your tumble. Los Pinos is one of the peaks I've visited the most. There are two other trails to get there. One from Bell Ridge (junction would have been on your left coming down), and the other Los Pinos Ridge trail which continued over the top. Los Pinos Ridge connects to the ...
