Re: PV Ridge

I was going to make a new topic but this is a good place to drop some water level pictures of cooper canyon falls from Thursday(4/17).

Re: Exploration in the OC

the trail is fairly clear of poison oak... but its all around you at all times. the upper canyon had more but avoiding it was easy.

I doubt I found an active "cartel" grow site. my theory is some OC kids figured out how to grow cheap pot. but they probably haven't been back in a while.

Exploration in the OC

there is a small relatively unknown canyon and waterfall on the way to the super popular holy Jim trail. This canyon is named Falls Canyon and has a decently cleared trail for about a 1/4 mile to the first waterfall is a 35ft beauty, this had been my stopping point for the last 2 years. http://mappe...

Reminds me of the Dana point sea cave area. For being so close to the coast there isn't a whole lot of beach hiking other the crystal cove.

Nice Sunset on San Gabriel Peak 3/25

I got off of work at 3pm and decided to drive to the san gabriels to squeeze a quick camp/hike into my busy schedule. Without a plan and a bit of rain in the forecast I drove up the 2. when the Clouds cleared at redbox and less than 2 hours of light I decided to watch the sunset from san gabriel pea...

Re: San Gab Peak and Mt Disappointment

Markham looked like a really quick fun scramble, looks like poodle dog might choke the use trail to the top though. I've always been more scared of running into weirdos doing a sacrifice than bears or lions. You would think they would spend the extra 20 minutes to drive to the devils canyon or somth...

Re: San Gab Peak and Mt Disappointment

Did you happen to see the deer bones near the trail up to san gabriel peak at the main junction with the mt. Lowe trail? I thought it was a strange spot to find deer remains so close to a popular trail.

Re: Ghost Mountain Anza Borrego

I've started callings kid "walkin will" as my shameless spinoff of the hiking Jim/Joyce combo. He is a good hiking companion because it give me someone to talk/sing to and not be that weird guy singing to himself on the trail. As he grows his pack is getting heavier and heavier I don't kno...

Tenaja Falls - San Mateo Canyon Wilderness

the "jewel" of the san mateo canyon wilderness is a 125ft 5 tiered waterfall... too bad its run dry and had a small trash and graffiti issue, surprising because its pretty far out of the way to get to. Last time I was here was about a year ago, and there was a good flow at the falls even e...

Mt. Waterman & Mt. Lowe

I had originally planned to take the entire day (3/5) hiking to twin peaks east in the little bit on snow we had, but I ended up getting stuck watching my son last minute so we hiked to mt. waterman via the fire road. waterman had about 6-12inches of very slushy snow but it was already melting in su...

last month I tried to take the lady & the baby camping in Blair valley in Anza Borrego state park. the car full of camping stuff blew its transmission, and the car sat in Ramona California an hour away from where I live for a week or so. When we went to pick up the car from the shop We decided t...

Re: Harding Truck Trail

Interesting mining article, I have seen a few of the mines, I'll have to stake my claim when I find the old Los pinos mine :/. Yes Harding canyon is a lot of boulder hopping, not so much bushwhacking but plenty of stream crossings. 40ft waterfall and plenty of "deep" pools by OC standard a...

I've only hiked the laguna coast wilderness once, those no trespassing signs on the way to peaks scared me away from hiking up there. I don't know how strict the OC parks are and I don't really want to find out. Whiting, caspers, aliso, and laguna have a bunch of off trail spots I want to check out.

San Mateo Canyon Wilderness - Oak Flats

Bear canyon - Bear Ridge - Verdugo - Lucas Canyon - Oak Flats and back. trail is well maintained until about a mile down the verdugo trail it gets a little washed out and the trail could use a good trim. Re: Hidden Gem of the Santa Ana Mountains- Yeager Mesa

I poked around for the plane wreck but could not find it, but I didn't look too hard though. Did you go up the ridge? or did you follow the trail that looks like a downhill mountain bike racetrack? that's an odd way to do the trabuco/horsethief loop but after going down the bumpy trabuco canyon road...

Hidden Gem of the Santa Ana Mountains- Yeager Mesa

I took a short hike down the Trabuco canyon trail to an unmarked trail maintained by the local mountain bikers that leads up to a unique little spot high on the bell ridge. Yeager Mesa was a privately owned mining claim now its just a beautiful meadow lined with oak and pine trees. The mesa has grea...

they are all over the OC parks like whiting ranch and aliso creek. most are totally nice and friendly, its a small group that acts like the trails are their race track. its a very small minority speeding around the single track trails. a few months back I was walking in whiting ranch with the lady a...

I hike off of Ortega all the time, and I had no idea it was there. Elsinore Mtns High Point.

I had the day off work so I decided to take William up the Ortega Hwy to the Morgan trail head off of the south Main divide road.
