Re: Adventure Pass temporary shortage
It would be super awesome if I could turn in a stack of $5 day passes in March in exchange for the Annual Pass I wanted to buy last week.

Re: Baldy loop October
I was out there on Saturday as well...so windy and cold! Does anyone know who was being airlifted out just beyond the Ice House turn? We saw the chopper on our ascent to the summit and by the time we were driving down, it was hovering near the road and the police had traffic stopped going up past Ic...

Baldy summit weather link?
Forgive me if this has already been posted...is there a link somewhere to the weather forecast for the summit of Mt. Baldy?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Baldy Bowl and Ski Hut Trail
Has anyone been up this week since the snow? Thinking of heading up on Sunday. Thanks!

Re: elevation sickness/AMS
BTW...we had Diamox with us and everyone opted to skip it. Looking back all three said they would have taken it and dealt with the side effects.

Re: elevation sickness/AMS
We did the Main Mt. Whitney Trail on Sunday and three out of four of our group struggled with the altitude. I was the only one that was fine. Two of us spent three days prior in Mammoth at 8,000 ft. The other two drove up to Lone Pine two days before our ascent. One started struggling before Trail C...

Re: Whitney 2013 Training Hikes
Thank you for all of the tips. :) I was able to get out and hike Baldy via the ski hut on Saturday. This was my first time up this trail, the other couple of times I've come down this way. What a humbling hike, I have a lot of work to do before July! I have to admit, I was a little off of my game......

Re: Santa Ana Mtns:Missing hiker found
Sean, their car was parked and the rescues occurred about halfway down Trabuco Creek road, which indicates they were closer to Falls Canyon than to Holy Jim. They wouldn't have parked where they did if HJ, which is every bit as easy to follow as you've read, was their intended destination. I've neve...

Re: Santa Ana Mtns:Missing hiker found
You just had me searching my Camelbak Luxe for a whistle. I don't think I have one! I do carry one in my pack though along with the international whistle code since I would probably never remember what means what!

Re: Whitney 2013 Training Hikes
I think the most important thing is to at least spend the day prior to your hike (if attempting to dayhike) at a high altitude. You could drive up further north and climb White Mountain, or drive up to Horseshoe Meadows (at 10,000 ft and very close to Whitney Portal) and do some light hiking at hig...

Re: Whitney 2013 Training Hikes
Thank you for all of the suggestions. :) What kind of shape are you starting with? Last year I dayhiked Whitney fairly easily without doing many long hikes before. But I was doing the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park loop every week and walked that pretty quickly. I'm in decent shape and trying to bu...

Whitney 2013 Training Hikes
I was lucky enough to snag permits to day hike Mt. Whitney on July 7th! I'm in the process of planning my training hikes leading up to the big day and wanted to get your suggestions for getting the most bang for my buck in the mountains of So Cal, so to speak. I have kids every other weekend, so I c...

Re: Baldy summit vandalism
I was wondering if I was crazy or if something had happened to the shelter. I was at the summit two weeks ago, then again yesterday and it looked different. Sad that people feel the need to put the work in to get to the top of the mountain and then do something like that. :( Thanks to those who are ...
