San Jacinto Peak June 8, 2005 By Lonnie DeCloedt After reading Wingding's report on the San Gorgonio Backcountry Bulletin Board about her hike to San Jacinto Peak the previous weekend, I decided to go up there myself. Old Mount Emma and (new) Mount Emma April 20, 2005 By Lonnie DeCloedt Ashley was finally ready to tackle a decent hike, so we headed to the Emmas, a couple desert peaks near Palmdale. Mount Wilson April 14, 2005 By Lonnie DeCloedt I was sick most of the past week so Ashley and I didn't get any local conditioning hikes in until the day before. Re: Chaos at Covington Flats (Joshua Tree)
The Covington Flats area of Joshua Tree warms the soul, except when you're stuck in a snow storm in the middle of the night. Then it freezes the soul. But we escaped alive, and started fresh in the morning. While Cecelia tried to sleep in the car, I walked around the Park entrance and enjoyed the su...

Re: Idlehour via Poles Trail
Thanks for the report. Idlehour is like a second home to me now. I've taken the Telephone Trail many times, and put work into it too. But I haven't gone that way in awhile. The waterfall down there is called Hildur Falls, named by one of the original cabin owners.

Thanks for the report. That's more colorful than I've ever seen a hike to Potato. Should we have a forum hike to Potato where we ascend some stupid way and leave pirate-themed spuds on the tank?

I added four of Lonnie's TRs from 2004. The WayBack Machine saved partial content for a few other hikes that year, but not enough to create a satisfying reproduction of Lonnie's gallery-based reports. After I'm done with years 2005-08, I will reconsider the miscellaneous material and possibly publis...

Re: Dumb Thoughts While Roaming
Often I encounter massive piles of fresh bear poop along the Idlehour Trail. I think, "Somebody's gonna step in that. I should move it off the trail." That's not the dumb thought, though. The dumb thought is: "I'll move it on the way out." It's dumb because the moment I think it,...
