Ross Mountain? Iron Fork? Sounds about right. "Hmm" said Hikin Jim.

Mountain Home Flats Trip/Marijuana Report

I went to Mountain Home Flats near the San Gorgonio Wilderness last Friday. The water in the creek was flowing. Not super well, but decent. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/lh3.googleusercontent.com/-k3y1wpIHhf4/VT8lTO7BhGI/AAAAAAABF40/r4EvGDdw_lc/s720/20150424_160023.jpg The trail itself has ...

Re: Santiago Peak via Holy Jim Trail

Lookin' good. I have yet to make it up all the way to the peak. I've just been to the main divide road.

So, that little spring was still flowing? The one maybe halfway between the canyon bottom and the main divide road. It's an odd little spring.

Re: West Baldy and Hikin' Jim's Peak List

Nice write up. By the way, I've actually added one more peak to my 10,000 footer list: Shirley Peak , rounding things out to 25 peaks. Some have asked me to add another peak, Carmen "Peak" , over by 10,000 Foot Ridge as well, but I have so far declined pending a personal visit and site sur...

Re: Stanley-Miller Mine

You guys found more stuff than I did on my trip. One thing I found that tripped me out was a huge cast iron stove, probably for cooking for the entire crew. It was a size of a desk. I also found a tunnel that apparently was used as a trash can after the ore played out. The bottom of the tunnel was &...

Interesting peak, and I like that angle on the San Gabs too. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/2.bp.blogspot.com/-VEzmfJzgE0Y/VGwKXDxMV1I/AAAAAAAAHKU/sMKC1mZAeps/s800/010.JPG I believe that the highest peak on the left must be Cucamonga and that the more brownish looking peak in front of it and...

With trail head break ins an unfortunate reality in Southern California, I think I'll continue to carry a "hiker's wallet" We were in Icehouse Canyon for the first time this year on Wednesday. There were signs posted warning about car break-in's. I've been lucky so far, but frie...

Fess up Hikin' Jim.... you were determined to find your wallet because you had some soon-to-expire Arby's coupons in there... ? Hey, don't be embarrassed --- I'd risk my life on Eaton Canyon's Razorback if I knew there was a stash of coupons for Arby's Curly Fries up there somewhere... ? Arby's is ...

Re: Lost Wallet, Sitton Peak

You picked an interesting way down from Sitton. Santa Ana chaparral is serious and unforgiving. Yeah, "interesting" (lol) is right. It took me an hour and a half to go maybe a quarter mile from the peak back to the road. I was looking for an easier way down. There is somethi...

Re: Lost Wallet, Sitton Peak

Maybe it's time to consider getting yourself a "Road ID" bracelet - with emergency info on it. That way you could leave your "wallet" in the car where it would be safe! :) A "Road ID" isn't a bad idea. With trail head break ins an unfortunate reality in Southern Califo...

Re: Lost Wallet, Sitton Peak

The wallet was along my XC bushwhacking route in heavy brush. I found the wallet at waypoint 19. The way I found it was: 1. Prayed a lot 2. Follow my GPS track (which is accurate +/- 20') 3. Prayed some more 4. Track myself -- look for broken branches and logical routes. 5. Kept on praying. Here's a...

Re: Lost Wallet, Sitton Peak

I will take a run out that way early next week to see if I can find it. Assuming it's in the brush on the south side of the peak it's probably still sitting there. That's my thought, that it's in the brush. I'll send you my GPS track if you like. GPS is only about +/- 20 feet, but I'd have followed...

Thank you, Jerry. Here's a sketch of my approximate route . I may have lost the wallet on top of the peak when I took a pen out of my pocket to write in the summit register. -- or -- I may not have put things back in my pocket securely after getting my pen out and my "wallet" (plastic zip ...

Lost Wallet, Sitton Peak

I lost my "wallet" (plastic zip lock bag) on Sunday somewhere near Sitton Peak (off of Ortega Hwy in the Cleveland National Forest). No doubt some noble hiker is trying even now to return it to me. Well, hope springs eternal anyway. Pass the word if you know anyone who hikes near Ortega Hi...
