Re: Sugarloaf, Ontario Peak 11-8-07
Taco, the views from sugarloaf are ok. You get a good look at San Antonio Canyon. There was a thick fog at about 3000' feet, so I couldn't see much to the west. JayO, I should have called in for a permit, but I decided to do this hike at the last minute. I was short on time on Thursday so I couldn't...

Sugarloaf, Ontario Peak 11-8-07
Did a nice solo loop yesterday in the Ice House canyon area. When I got to the parking lot at 6:30am it was closed, so I parked on the street. At the trail head there were signs saying "No Entry". I assumed they just hadn’t removed the signs yet. I climbed up Falling Rock Canyon towards Su...

I did a small loop in the Ice House canyon area yesterday. When I arrived at 6am the parking lot was blocked, and there were signs saying "closed". I parked on the street and started hiking. When I returend about 1pm the parking lot was open and all signs were removed.

Re: Orange County Hiking??
The Santa Ana Mountains are closed. In fact the Santiago fire is still burning in theses mountains. I live in South OC, so i hike in the here when I am short on time. I think Sitton peak is the most scenic, while Santiago is the most challenging. Its not hard, just long, hot and dry. Bedford peak is...

Re: Angeles National Forest Closure - October 23
I spoke with a ranger for the SG National Forest today. She said the forest will be closed at least for the next two weeks, and possibly until after a major rain.

Baldy, Dawson, Pine, Harwood Oct 13th
Head up to Baldy area for a 4 peak loop with the Outdoors Club. 9 of us left Manker at about 7:30 and went up the ski hut trail to Baldy. After a short break we headed over to Dawson, then onto Pine. Hiking back up to Baldy from the Dawson/Baldy saddle was brutal. That is one steep trail. Once we cl...

This is a neat site for gps tracks and info on peaks, and routes. It is a wiki so it is created and edited by users. http://www.tierrawiki.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
