Re: Lone Pine: Horseshoe Meadows
Wow! Good job. I get tired driving that road. I saw a bunch of bikers riding up to Rock Creek last weekend. It looked like some kind of organized race?

I have had days like that. A few times I have started hiking then just turned around because I wasn't into it that day.Tim wrote: I lost my motivation and just turned around.
Your pictures are great! I like the waterfalls and low light pictures.

Mountain Lions Trek South
From the OC Register: http://sciencedude.ocregister.com/files/2010/06/MtLionTracking.jpg He was known to scientists as “M56,” and by the end of his short life he’d had plenty of contact with humans. A radio collar allowed scientists to trace the young cougar’s path as he threaded his way through hum...

Awesome Tim. I was up Galena a few weeks ago and looking at possible routes. I want to try that route next winter or spring.

I agree. Its more dangerous to pull out and let 1 or 2 people in a hurry pass than it is to keep going at a reasonable speed.simonov wrote:Your own safety should be uppermost in your mind...............not a place for macho games.

Re: Turn outs
What bothers me even more is the idiots that think driving three inches from my bumper is going to make be use the turn out. I usually do 5 or 10 over on a mountain road. If some clown comes up behind me and rides my ass, I don't use the turn out just to piss him off. If he keeps doing it, I slow do...

At least you guys have an excuse to get back to the Sierra soon! Its nice to have an entire area to yourself. I wish we would have spent 2 nights like you did. Doesn't look like to much has melted up high in the past month, but everything down low looks a lot greener.

Split Mountain
I climbed Split Mountain last weekend with 4 others from the SoCal hikers and Peakbaggers meet up group. We met in Big Pine at 6am on Saturday and took the McMurry Meadows Road to get to the Red Lake trailhead. We started hiking about 7:30 and it was already getting warm. The trail starts at 6,500' ...

Nice shots. Its always good to have the summit to yourself. I saw similar patterns in the clouds on a very windy day at the end of November.

Fun Fun Fun! That short cut you took can be miserable if you hit soft snow. Postholing into those prickly plants is no fun, but it is a great way to go when the snow is firm.
