Re: Cascades Trip

$80 bucks... If somehow the weather is miraculously clear on-time each time I reach one of the peaks, and I'm in fine shape, etc etc... it may be cheaper to buy this pass. That should also cover local stuff here, assuming that's federal land... I'm sure there's a mile of fine print and BS though. :?...

Cascades Trip

Sometime in spring '08, I want to head north to my buddy's pad in Seattle. he's a Cop, and I'm hoping to gets myself in on all that career jazz. Anywho, I plan on driving, and hopefully climbing a few Cascade Volcanos on the way. My buddies invited me to go up Shasta via Avalanche Gulch last June, b...

Re: Mt. Baldy via Big Horn Ridge?

If we can't come up with a decision by the day, we'll just wing it. I find I have more fun and learn more when I do that. Tons of planning and what-ifs and all that sometimes makes things too boring. Turns it from an adventure, into a tame walk. Well said, I agree, maybe worst case we can contiue u...

Re: Lytle Creek - Trail to Buck Point?

Travis, I have multiple routes up Cucamonga from the south planned for this winter, if things materialize. I hope to park around 34°11'33.86"N 117°35'35.76"W (got it from Google Earth). Map says road is closed MARCH 1 to Labor Day. Anyone been on this road lately? I may have missed somethi...

We are sorry about your situation, and many of us have friends and family who are in the affected areas, or are working there as emergency services, volunteers, of military personell. No negative comments were exchanged. If you can show one to me, I'll be happy to fix it for you if it so bothers you...

I believe you misread, Betty_Goat. Only thing I saw were jokes regarding inner-city communities in Los Angeles, due to the lack of hiking available in the mountains.

Reading comprehension.

Re: Mt. Baldy via Big Horn Ridge?

My machete hasn't been used in a few years. I think that the "trail" errr route, should suck only up until we hit the ridge proper. From the air, it looks similar to Copter Ridge, which was nice.

Re: Mt. Baldy via Big Horn Ridge?

8) It would be cool if we could organise an assault, of sorts, on that ridge. On Google Erf, the ridgeline itself looks easy going as far as brush from about 6,000ft up. The ridgeline ascending from Widman Ranch looks easy. I can clearly see a trail, a good looking one from what can be seen, coming ...

That is interesting, I'd like to see that.

I've got some pictures I took, showing a trace of a trail on Bighorn Ridge, but I cannot find them. I don't know where I could have put them.

I'm really surprised and quite relieved that the San Gabriel's did not have any fires. Seems like a gamble most years, especially this year. Roll the dice, hope for the best, least damage.
