Re: Twin Peaks - Hard Routes
Are talking about climbing up, past the Triplets and on up to Twin Peak? As you know, I was on an ODC exploratory hike to the Triplets. The trek to Twin Peaks was significant and most people did not make it down the ridge. Me and one other guy made it the farthest down the ridge towards triplets, I ...

Orange County Hiking??
I am thinking I would not mind hiking some of the HPS peaks this weekend if I can, I assume everything is all clear (in regards to closures) in Orange Country. Has anyone hiked Santiago and Modjeska? I might try them instead of the Verdugos. http://angeles.sierraclub.org/hps/guides/18a.htm http://an...

Re: Angeles National Forest Closure - October 23
Back on the topic of closures die to the fire, does anyone know if any of the national forests or mountain parks will be open for this weekend? San Jacinto? San Gabriels? etc.
I was planning to sign up for the ODC San Jacinto hike on 11/4 if the mountain is open,
thanks,

Re: City Hiking Section
I beg to differ. The word "Urban" usually refers to the inner city where there are mostly paved streets, as opposed to "Suburban" or the "Suburbs" which refers to the areas you guys are talking about. None of the areas you mentioned are considered to be in "Urban ...

Re: Mt. Baldy via Big Horn Ridge?
If we can't come up with a decision by the day, we'll just wing it. I find I have more fun and learn more when I do that. Tons of planning and what-ifs and all that sometimes makes things too boring. Turns it from an adventure, into a tame walk. Well said, I agree, maybe worst case we can contiue u...

I have to admit, Tom's photos make me feel the need to rethink this hike, but I think our route to the west will be better.

Re: Using the Quote Key
How does one properly use the quote key? When I have used it I can only get the word: Quote: and then the quoted text box. How does one write in the quoted person's name such as: Travis wrote: and then have the quoted text box appear? I must be missing something fairly obvious. Thanks. I am such a ...

Re: Look Out Peak
In 1926, Michelson used a rotating prism to measure the time it took light to make a round trip from Mount Wilson to Mount San Antonio in California, a distance of about 22 miles. The precise measurements yielded a speed of 186,285 miles per second (299,796 kilometres per second). http://en.wikiped...

Thank you. That person is exceptionally toxic. I'm normally not in favor of blanket IP blocks, but maybe that's one IP that really should be blocked. I am already on it, I made it so all new users need to be approved, if they have the same IP address they will not get approved unless they meet cert...

Re: Mt. Baldy via Big Horn Ridge?
Jim is right, that the getting out of cattle canyon onto Bighorn Ridge will be steep, but I think we can handle it. We agree on the route, just need to talk Becht and Augie to join us and select the date. Maybe Nov.11 or 18th?

Re: Mt. Baldy via Big Horn Ridge?
We still have to chose from the final 2 routes. Jim's routes via Heaton Flats or my proposal via Cow Canyon Saddle. I compared the 2 routes on my website. http://www.gpsmountaineering.com/mountb ... ghornridge Via Cow Canyon looks to be the easier choice with significantly less elevation gain and le...

Re: Mt. Baldy via Big Horn Ridge?
Ah, I understand your route now, it definetly looks better than that historic trail, following the ridges eliminates a lot of the bush. I traced what I think is your route on Google Earth, check it out. I think either route in blue would be worth a shot. I also added your route to my Google Earth KM...

Re: Mt. Baldy via Big Horn Ridge?
I am up to an adventure more than anyone, but looking at that route from Widman Ranch (via Heaton Flats) to the Bighorn Ridge, I see some very serious bushwhacking. I think it has already been discussed, but the route from Cow Canyon, down Coldwater Canyon Truck Trail, into Cattle Canyon, follow the...

Re: Mt. Baldy via Big Horn Ridge?
Does this route make sense, I am trying to piece it all together. That looks like a pretty good likeness to me. Does your mapping software give you a mileage and an elevation profile too? I find these profiles are not always accurate, and this is actually backwards (have not been able to figure out...
