I just got this e-mail from a trail volunteer.

Last Saturday, our 2 volunteer vehicles we used for carpooling up Angeles Crest to do trail maintenance were broken into. This was at what we call Dark Canyon, mile marker 30.02. the little trail that goes up to the Tree Plantation near the Mt Lukens road. On one car, the passenger-side window was broken, on the other the driver-side window. A hiker’s car was also broken into. Luckily none of the volunteers had left anything of value in the cars. The hiker had left his wallet and by the time he called to cancel it, there were already charges on it. A fire crew stopped by and radioed enforcement. S. Alfonso, enforcemtn, took the information, and told them to also go to the La Crescenta Sherriff’s station. He said there is really no place safe from this type of vandalism, they can do it so fast. He recommended having the car locked and windows closed, but having as much of the car open as possible to show that there is nothing to steal inside. Some of the volunteers are now concerned about parking up in the Forest any more.
