Sometimes I edit posts in order to trim unnecessary quotations. It is not necessary to quote an entire post to which you are replying, and doing so clutters up the thread. It's easier, however, to do the editing myself rather than to train members on the proper quoting etiquette. So, please carry on with your over-quoting, but know that I'm probably going to trim down the quote if it's too long.
Also, I sometimes edit posts in order to add quotes for important context. This usually occurs when people simply post a link to an article but don't include a quote. It is important to include a quote because sometimes the linked article disappears or the link becomes broken. If that happens, we need some kind of record in the post itself of what the article said.
I silently edit posts for quotations, but if I need to edit your reply or your statement, you will be informed of the action. And if you need help editing your post, please let us know.
