So I started at the eastern terminus of the Altadena Crest Trail and went westbound for about a mile then went off trail up to high(ish) Pt. 2120+. Then returned. A whopping 3 miles round trip with 1000' gain.

Have you ever gone from 2120 up to the Gooseberry Motorway? I've been eyeballing that route for years but it doesn't look like the path extends above 2120.

Nice pic of you there at the end of your post HikeUp.
[seriously: cute Corgi -- at least I think it's a Corgi]
Dang! They've really beefed up the gate at Pinecrest -- or should I say the Pinecrest Federal Penitentiary (judging by the look of it)?

That's Sadie the Pembroke Welsh Corgi - no longer with us, but she was a unique personality.Hikin_Jim wrote: Nice pic of you there at the end of your post HikeUp.[seriously: cute Corgi -- at least I think it's a Corgi]

I started a thread about the gate where I will post pics of any changes I happen to notice.

I have not gone up beyond 2120. This was my first time up to 2120 actually. I was eyeballs deep into the marine layer and couldn't see more than 20' so I have no idea what it looked like above that point. Satellite views though certainly don't show any path beyond 2120. IMO, you bushwhacker types could make it Gooseberry certainly, maybe even the Mt. Lowe BM.Sean wrote: Have you ever gone from 2120 up to the Gooseberry Motorway? If I recall, Ze did get to the Mt Lowe bench mark (2820) from the Angeles Crest, but I am not positive. You might be able find it somewhere on this forum. If I recall he did this even before someone had cleared the ridge route to 2120 - but my memory is a bit fuzzy about the specifics. (edit: be careful following some of @Ze Hiker 's links to socalhikes.com unless you're into hard core p o r n. )
