Panorama Point

After spending the night deep in the Nebraska National Forest (I didn't even know that existed) I kept driving toward Kimball, the closest town to the Nebraska highpoint. A few miles on dirt roads led me to a bison ranch where I duly submitted the suggested entrance fee and drove on more dirt road to Panorama Point. It is an interesting panorama, lots of flat ground with large animals grazing and lazing and quite a few windmills sitting idle in the absence of any breeze. No real hiking involved in this one, I parked about 30 yards from the marker although I did wander around a bit for photo opportunities.

0.02 miles, approximately 0.1 feet elevation gain.

Entrance - no locked gate but a double length of cattle guard across the dirt road.

Summit marker, lists the elevation as 5424.

Summit pose. I'm the tallest person in the state right here.

I didn't actually take a panorama shot but you can get the idea of the local landscape here.

Local wildlife. These animals are huge.

Was that 0.1 feet elevation gain both ways?

I hope you were prepared for the climb

Thanks for posting that! I would have expected such a flat high-point to have a much lower elevation, but that's what it is. I guess the plains are tilted.

Further proof that Nebraska doesn't really exist.

The plains are actually at a pretty high elevation as the ground slopes up from the Mississippi River to the Rockies. Kansas was nearly 5000 feet too. And Nebraska has some hills but they are in the northern part of the state. This photo is while I was driving out of the National Forest.

"I didn't actually take a panorama"

You could paste together 3 copies of that shot, and it'd fool me for sure! ?

Actually I thought it was a panorama until he said it wasn't.
