I did a short ride today, up Mt. Lowe Railway and over to Panorama Point. At the start (Loma Alta Park), it was already cold and windy. I encountered snow in shady spots just below Sierra Point, and patches covering the road on the first switchback after the pavement. Past Granite Gate the snow was mostly continuous cover, and cold enough that the snow was keeping a very nice texture. Alpine Tavern looked...well...alpine.
After I turned off toward Panorama Point an extended flurry began, and kept up for about 20 minutes. Looking east, I could see snow falling from Henninger Flat up to Wilson summit. Looking west, there was a 'flurry cell' lazily drifting south over the summit of Mt. Lukens.
I must say I'm actually enjoying having a real winter again.
