I spent my vacation in the Eastern Sierras last week. Despite the fires burning in Yosemite, a few of us managed to hike in other areas where the air was clear. I stayed at a hotel in Big Pine and we hiked in Bishop, Onion valley, Lone Pine and other areas. My first hike was in Bishop, Mosquito flats to Ruby Lake. I have been here before and didn't want to go up to Mono Pass because I had been there before. Even though the air was clear most of the way, we could see that up by the pass was very smoky which was confirmed by other hikers desceding the switchbacks.

Sunrise from the hotel.

Thanks for the pictures and the report. It's such a beautiful area. At least the trails you hiked look clear. We are scheduled to be in June Lake in 10 days. Hopefully, it won't be too smokey.

Any altitude sickness issues? Mosquito Flats is the highest trailhead in the Sierra, 10,250'.

Hi Richard,
This time I had no elevation issues. However. I did purchase Altitude Sickness pills from Amazon. I used them one day only and they worked. However, I was there for a few days before I used them so maybe I didn't need them. Anyways most if the areas were clear. Have a nice trip
