Come on Tim, you know you want to give it a go!
What time do you guys go when doing the traverse?
I'm in if it starts early enough?
A 4:30 AM start would put us at the top of Baldy by 7:15 AM and to Iron by 9AM, it's that dreaded return up the Traverse in the opposite direction in the heat that sucks. If we could make it back over West Baldy by 11:30 AM it might not be that bad?
We could stash some water on the other side of West Baldy on another hike before then?

I like this idea of doing the traverse as a return trip to Baldy. Avoiding Iron Mt sounds ideal. I'm still planning on doing Iron on this date, but would definitely be up for doing the traverse another day.
Won't it be cooled off by then? If you start REALLY early like 3 am then imagine that! Going down from West Baldy at like before 6 am. Would be nice and cool then! Just gotta get up a little earlier. If Rick Kent can do it, ANYBODY can do it!Tim wrote:Nah, it's too hot to do the traverse. In the fall maybe from Baldy to Iron and then back to Baldy. I want nothing to do with Yucca City and the Saddle from Hell
J man, lemme get this straight. You start at manker and go up and over west baldy and go how far across the traverse w/o tagging Iron? then go back to manker? Like turn around at gunsight?JMunaretto wrote:I like this idea of doing the traverse as a return trip to Baldy. Avoiding Iron Mt sounds ideal. woops, I meant avoiding going down from Iron Mt (to East Fork). Gotta tag Iron then head back.
And you could bail out to Heaton if you don't want to go back through the wicked thorns. And beg for a ride back.JMunaretto wrote:woops, I meant avoiding going down from Iron Mt (to East Fork). Gotta tag Iron then head back.

I changed this to this saturday. I have 15 coming, with at least 10 planning on going the whole way (the others just to the saddle).
All the carnage to come

I'll watch the cars from up on the hillside. I usually ride alone but if anyone wants to catch people breaking into cars let me know. 8) you got that keemosabie?TacoDelRio wrote:I hope it's nice and cool. That could become a bit of a nightmare if folks started dropping out in any number.
so? yeah yeah? do tell? did you go so fast you ran all the way over the top of the mountain? and down the other side?JMunaretto wrote:I changed this to this saturday. I have 15 coming, with at least 10 planning on going the whole way (the others just to the saddle).

no I took it easy this time. 4 hrs up, still not bad. Less ruination of the legs.
