Saw two or these in the Santa Anas. No rattle. maybe 1"-1.5" diameter

Looks like a gopher snake, one of the more common snakes in SoCal. Not poisonous. You got a nice picture since they move pretty fast so its tough to get a good picture of one.

Gopher. Looks like a baby one.
There's also one that looks just like it called a bull snake that grows much larger.

Small point: Bullsnakes are a midwestern subspecies of the Gopher snake...
