Finally did this ridge with an HPS group. Starting from Vivian Creek trailhead, we went up (south) a big gully just east of Camp Creek (there is some route-finding involved to get to the main ridge efficiently) and then to the saddle northeast of Little San G. Summited Little San G., then hiked by the Radio Towers, then Wilshire Mtn. (a big fat nothing IMO), Wilshire Peak, Oak Glen Peak (a real nice peak though not on the HPS list), Cedar Mtn., Birch Mtn., and then the real, real long slog to Allen Peak. We returned via the fire road that leads to the Bear Paw Conservatory (need advance permission to go through this area).
It was about 17 miles with about 5500' gain. While the LA Basin sweltered, the temps on the ridge were in the low 70's with lots of nice cool breezes.

Little San G to Galena is awesome! Very rugged, a fair amount of brush, and lots of adventure. It's kinda like a stepped up version of the Iron-Baldy traverse. Definitely not for novices but if you're looking for something a bit more challenging and don't mind brush and loose rock it definitely delivers.
Real nice views. Once you get on the ridge the going is not tough at all, but it is long if you do the whole thing between Allen and Little San G. Yeah, Little San G. to Galena sounds like a challenge.TacoDelRio wrote:Really cool looking ridge from Yucaipa. Cool stuff, Augie!
