This doesn't look good for a wet El Niño year. An article from today's San Gabriel Valley Tribune: A Disappearing El Niño?

Bill Patzert is the "Debbie Downer" of the meteorological crowd.

The NWS is still sitting at a probability of 70%.

I'm going to go with that as opposed to someone saying "The great wet hope IS going to be the great wet disappointment.” The source, Bill Patzert, is an oceanographer but is also considered an expert in climatology. That said, he's also a frequent media source which is something I know a little bit about.

Climatologists don't say something WILL happen. They speak in terms of probabilities. Those looking to be quoted and grab that TV time (which relates directly to speaking fees) tend to be a little more cavalier. Absolutes sell.

Some parts of the world are downgrading a bit while others are still at the higher probabilities. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
