Hiked with Jane and Archie today. We took the shortcut trail up to Windy Gap, then went around the back side, up to Islip, and out along the ridge above Crystal Lake a bit. It was warm, but OK with a breeze. Little Jimmy Spring is cold and great, flowing fine. Met a thru hiker named Julian who was having fun on his way to Canada so far.

Mt Islip shortcut w dogs
Mike,
Take a look at this map.
There are four principal routes to Little Jimmy:
1. From Islip Saddle via the PCT (green).
2. Via the service road (gold).
3. From Crystal Lake via Windy Gap (purple).
4. The short cut which goes from the point on Hwy 2 closest to Windy Gap, more or less directly to the Gap and then from there to Little Jimmy (orange).
Number 4 is a well worn use trail.
