Sad to hear about that. Not that it would have helped this fellow, but it seems like they've been talking about creating some kind of wildlife underpass or passageway in the region for years, but looks like it's still not quite there. Found this note:

It's just a matter of time before Malibu gets a bear or two. I darted one a couple years ago that was about 100 yards from a huge culvert under the 101 near Reyes Adobe.
Had the bear hit one less dumpster, or if I had stopped for gas, it would have happened that day.
