I recently came across an amazing article about a trip to Switzer's camp in the 1880s, including a general description of the range and the "Switzer trail" as well as encounters with crusty old mountain men, accounts of thrashing through chaparral on horseback while deer hunting and gratuitous cruelty to mountain lions but also surprisingly poetic descriptions of the canyon:

A book by the same author contains a brief description of Switzer's and vicinity (with a few factual errors):

The same book has an extended segment on Millard Canyon and the Brown brothers:

Anybody know of other early accounts of trips into the area and/or the old routes and trails that used to be used?
