Concentrations of E. coli, a bacterium that can cause sore throats, flu-like symptoms or serious illnesses, were above action levels at such popular watering holes as Chantry Flat above Arcadia, Hansen Lake in the San Fernando Valley and Eaton Canyon and the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena.

The Forest Service is hard-pressed to pick up after hikers, picnickers and bathers who jam the accessible Sturtevant and Hermit falls during the spring and summer months — many with dogs who leave behind feces containing E. coli bacteria that get into the streams
Change that to read as follows, and it would be more accurate:
The Forest Service does not and has no plans to pick up after hikers, picnickers and bathers who jam the accessible Sturtevant and Hermit falls during the spring and summer months — many with dogs who leave behind feces containing E. coli bacteria that get into the streams
As usual, this news report is about as precise as a chain saw. Since when is Chantry Flat a body of water? Yes, obviously they mean Santa Anita Canyon, and in particular the segment (I think) downstream from Sturtevant Falls, but a bit more specificity would be nice.

That just makes it more like Paradise Falls and that area...as in I double dog dare you to swim or drink from Paradise Falls. That just adds to the mystique and rebel. Only the truly brave can jump in now(after a few beers left behind of course)...all sissies and scaredy cats just watch. :D

Make it a "scratch and sniff" picture. Dirty diapers would be an appropriate odor!
