The best way to beat the heat is to not deal with it at all. But that doesn't mean you can't hike...

We headed up Baldy last night to catch the sunset. Hit the trail just as the sun dipped below the ridge and breezed up to the top. We saw 4 people the entire time- two down near the trailhead, and two at the summit camping out. Easily the fewest people I've ever seen on the mountain.

Nothing really to report on the trail... it's Baldy. Water is still flowing well above and below the hut. Up the Ski Hut, watched the sunset and hung out till it got completely dark, then headed down the Backbone. The colors up there are absolutely unreal.

Love sunset up there. Watching the shadow grow all the way out to San Gorgonio is pretty cool.

Nice trip and you definitely beat the heat.
