From rescued "hiker" Nick Cendoya's Facebook page :
"To me this was a test from god i embraced everything. All the cuts pain hunger thirst. I didnt cry once i pushed on for jesus and i have finally learned to live without fear."
I've heard of people going into the mountains for some sort of religious experience. It's been going on for ages. Cendoya may be reluctant, or incapable, of articulating the exact cause of his misfortune in Trabuco Canyon, but his Facebook post suggests a faith-based connection. If he didn't get lost on purpose, as part of some religious experience, then he certainly welcomed the problem once it did happen. To him it was a holy adventure, "a test from god" which he "embraced."
Cendoya prides himself on never crying, believing in Jesus, and learning to live without fear. Yet his girlfriend, Kyndall Jack, screamed for help. So I guess she failed the test.
Edit: Corrected Holy Jim to Trabuco Canyon, where the hikers were lost.
