How is the ATS course? I want to get into canyoneering and was thinking about doing the three day program.. Tips? Suggestions? Thanks!

Either or is going to lift you into the canyoneering community, where getting a 100% agreement on anything is quite the task. Gotta start somewhere on the schematics of approach, drop-in, possible rappels(rigging and descent/ascent of rappels), other hazards, exit.

I suggest trying out different routes to see where you fit in and then buy most of the gear after that. In a large group you can get by most of the time with the minimal gear requirements....or the group leader will state additional requirements.

Tip- save up money :D Its an expensive sport because canyoneers get attracted to lofty destinations like Yosemite,Zion,etc....and not to mention the gear.
