Got out with some friends to hike on this small island. We also spent most of our day replanting endemic plants on the island and removing pesky iceplant, which has all but strangled much of the native vegetation. It's only a couple miles r/t and is relatively flat but the views of the pearl blue water below and the really unusual fauna (only predator is the peregrine falcon) is totally awesome. i threw some pics up on my blog thing. http://outdoorsincali.com/2012/08/10/8- ... slands-np/
definitely recommend a trip out there. we went with channel islands restoration (for free) and it was well worth it.
