Did a quick overnight backpacking trip in the South Sierra Wilderness from Kennedy Meadows to Clover Meadow. I had never been to this area before but it is pretty awesome and only about 4 hours from Orange County. You also don't need wilderness permits which is kind of nice!

That looks like a great weekend getaway.
You went up from the west side of the sierras (past Isabella) - how much different is it from the east? I've never been to Kennedy Meadows, just seen the sign off 395...

I still came in from the East but just a roundabout way. I'd say that area is a little less green and the trees are less dense than being on the west side, but it's still a cool area with it's own unique landscape. I really want to check out the Domeland Wilderness next, it looks pretty interesting too.
