? Regarding the 'Ice House Canyon' name ?

Recently it was brought up on this board that Ice House gets it's name because it's a canyon where blocks of ice we stored [or something along those lines].

I'm not doubting this or anything like that but I was curious if anyone has seen any form of documentation of this information.

I know it was a long, long time ago, so pictures probably do not exist.

But any newspaper articles, advertisement regarding this ice house business?

Long shot I know, but it can't hurt to ask.

Trails Of the Angeles by John Robinson

Page #230, 3rd Paragraph, last line and I quote

"The Present name (Ice House Canyon) dates from the 1860's, when an ice plant in the lower canyon supplied ice to the valley residence (I'm assuming he means San Gabriel Valley)".

Wow, that quote from the John Robinson book ==== 1860

I remember checking those links and there are some great pictures and information provided.

Going by the following quote from the 'A Capsule History of Icehouse Canyon' link:

"The first documented activity in the canyon was mining: the first placer claim was recorded in 1892"

That probably settles any chance of seeing any articles/photos/clippings of this ice house business.

Sometimes history can remain a mystery...
