I parked in a turnout on the switchbacks at about 5200' on Baldy Rd today.

Had lunch and got the binocs out for some birdwatching. I noticed a fair bit of activity in a large dead pine straight out from my stop. Upon closer look I determined they were Acorn Woodpeckers - a small community. Beautiful little birds. Further reading shows that they form communties to maintain nests in the tree that they've selected to plug their acorns all over the bark on the outside. Very cool, learned something today.

If you're interested, here's the tree to look for. Sorry, I don't have a better lens.
