The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire that Saved America {link is to amazon page}
Anybody here read this book yet? If so, what did you think of it? I was thinking of buying but always like to hear other's thoughts first.

That fire burned 3 million acres and five towns to the ground in the hot sweep of a single weekend. It also killed nearly a hundred people.

Sounds like a heckuva book... but I haven't read it.

Yes it does look like a good read. It was mentioned in the NY Times today and it caught my eye. Would like to find out how he argues that the fire saved the country...hmmm.

Thanks for the video link Greg. I've been reading a sample chapter of the book and it's an interesting bit of history for sure. Pinchot and Pulaski are obviously mentioned.

I learned something new...the axe shown here is named after Ed Pulaski, the Forest Ranger who fought this fire...

Learn something new everyday...though this time it was a duh moment
