Taco, you got some really nice shots today! I will supply the necessary verbosity. The Middle Fork of Lytle Creek is a nice half-day canyoneering route. The hike in feels a little longer than other canyons, but at 2 miles I don't expect to garner much sympathy here.
The boys breakfasted on gnats in the morning. I offered them DEET. At first they were reluctant, but with a choice of cancer risk, or small flying insects in your eyes, ears and nostrils, cancer won as the preferable option.
The canyon was fun and relaxed. We all enjoyed the pine forest-y look of it (rare in the San Gabriels - most of our canyons are chapparal). We found about three blackberries, and they were maybe the three best blackberries ever.
Super cold water made up for a warm day (not as hot as we had feared it would be). Once we finished the last rappel, I refilled my Platypus for the hike out. Remembered the dead rattlesnake in the pool above after I drank about half of it. So far, no ill effects. I am hoping I will now develop a rattlesnake toxin immunity.
No adventure near Los Angeles would be complete without finding a large human duke on a nice rock near the stream, which we encountered on the hike out. Thanks humanity - that's super.
