I got a pair of snowshoes for Christmas 2008. Figured I should start to break them in at some point. Today was the day! Lots of snow loving folks on the mountain. It was 60 degrees and sunny. Ah, California!

I tromped around on the snowshoes up to the summit, and on the way back passed several guys, in boots, hiking up with their snowboards, who looked at me funny. The snow was hard packed and slushy enough to walk on... Oh well, at least I got a workout!

The fire made it to the top of the ridge on the south side. Some trees are scorched around the base, or have some branches toasted brown. Nothing like the total burn you see at lower elevations. I think almost all the trees I saw today are alive and will green up again. Someone at the warming hut said Todd was up there, alone, with a shovel, putting out spot fires. When a helicopter flew over and saw him, that's when they decided to do some water drops on Waterman.... :!:
