20091231 Baden Powell NE Face - Time Attack!
Time Attack = Japanese name for time trial, usually for auto racing, but it can be for anything. Sounds cooler to say ATTACK! than trial.
Did a brisk climb up the whole complex Northeast Face that has CJ's Hooker and Boulderdash, but took yet another new line this time, not that it's really any different than the last ones. Well, sorta. It's easier and faster, but routefinding still gets confusing halfway up the face.
Previous time was 2 hours and change (probably 2:10-2:15). Now, with my new nose, stopped the clock at the end of the 640 meter route with 1 hour 26 minutes. I blame my post surgery, functioning nose for such speed. It can be done much faster, depending on conditions, of course.
Some lame pics:
Bottom hunk melted out
On route
Arm healed
Final push, on the big shield
View
Run up the ridge to the summit in 50 minutes

Funny how my steps from two weeks ago are higher than the snow is now. Compacted.
Took Laurel Gulch down for the first time in a looong time. It is the fastest, least annoying way off the peak in winter.
Got home about an hour or so ago at 1330. Left home this morning around 0530. Fast day.
Also enjoyed a bit of sideways action on Swarthout Canyon Road. Old shitty suspension isn't so evident on dirt.
Video up in a bit.

Howdy Taco
NICE!!! Now that you can breathe better, there will no stopping you. Wait a minute -- there was no stopping you before
Great to see that the arm previously covered with Taco sauce is healing nicely.
I've never done Baden-Powell in summer or winter -- something to look forward to in 2010.
Happy New Year with Miles of Smiles,
Ellen

Strong work, Ryan! I was wondering if your new enhanced respiration set up was going to bring benefits in the mountains--apparently it has! 8)
BTW, last Sunday Phil was channeling his inner Taco and left a little blood on Ontario Ridge :

Nice work Taco, soon you will be wearing running shoes on those slopes and setting "Time Trails". Glad to see that you "Relapsed" today, I did the same but went later in the day and watched the sunset from Baldy Bowl Ridgeline .
What's next on your "To Do List"?
Alex and Zach keeping sneaking off to exotic ice climbing "Parks", not that I blame them
We need more snow.
Anyways Happy New Years and glad the arm is healing up nicely.
