A hiker found human bones in a rugged and remote area of unincorporated San Mateo County on Sunday, a sheriff's lieutenant said Tuesday.
Emergency personnel responded to the area below Star Hill Road west of the El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve and located the bones but could not recover them until the next day due to the rugged terrain, San Mateo County sheriff's Lt. Wes Matsuura said.
The bones were then sent to the coroner's office for DNA testing to determine the person's identity, according to Matsuura.
